Centre punches are used to mark the centre of a hole and leave a small indentation to guide drill bits for high accuracy drilling of holes in a range of materials. This indentation enables the drill to begin at the correct location precisely, without wandering or drifting on the surface which can impact the location and cause external damage. This extra step is recommended for neat and accurate finishing particularly when drilling into hard materials.
