Family Information
Class rating for video on SD cards: conventional data and photos are written to the memory card in individual sequences with interruptions. This process allows the card's full write speed to be utilised. Videos on the other hand must be written with a sustained speed. This does not match the card's maximum speed. Speed classes have been introduced to make it easier to select the right card for camcorders:
- Class x: x stands for the number of MB/s of sustained write speed
- Class 4 = 4 MB/s of sustained write speed
- Class 10 = 10 MB/s of sustained write speed
- UHS = New Bus system for UHS compatible cards, UHS-I over 10 MB/s of sustained write speed
- High-definition (HD) camcorders require Class 4 or above
- The Class Rating is only required for filming videos
